Need help on my Aluminum

Post  duane on Thu Nov 13, 2008 8:05 am

I'm attempting to get a mirror like shine on a non anodized surface. Is it recommended to use different buffing wheels with the different levels of buffing compounds? And how do I keep swirl mark out of my aluminum?

As long as there are NO pits that are finger nail deep (but you do see some scratches) I would start with a Yellow Airway with the Tripoli Bar,then go to a Medium Airway with the White Bar, and the final step would be a XX-Soft Airway with the Ultra White Bar and that will give you the mirror shine.

Swirl marks are usually caused by using the wrong compound for the pad, or having a contaminated final pad. This can be caused by using a rake on your Yellow pad, and then using the same rake for your final XX-Soft pad. The ideal situation is to use a separate rake for each compound, or clean the rake with solvent before going to your next step.
